Since the beginning of Russian aggression on the territory of Ukraine, which began in 2014, Ukrainian cultural heritage sites have suffered from vandalism of invaders and is constantly under threat. The situation with the preservation of Ukrainian cultural heritage has significantly aggravated since February 24, 2022, when regular military units of Russian Federation started war in Ukraine.

In particular, as a result of offensive of Russian troops, the Museum of History and Local Lore in Ivankiv village in Kyiv region. Dozens of architectural and historical monuments were partially destroyed and damaged by rocket and bomb attacks of Russian troops on cities of Kharkiv and Chernihiv. Significant damage to the architectural monument – the building of Shchors cinema in center of Chernihiv, historic school building on Shevchenko street in Kharkiv, wooden Church of Intercession built in the end of XIX century in Vyazivka village in Zhytomyr region.

There is also information on local damage caused by Russian bombing on such architectural masterpieces as the Assumption Cathedral in Kharkiv and ensemble of the Trinity-Elijah Monastery in Chernihiv. Repeated examples of damage to public and religious buildings show the indiscriminate shelling of Russian troops, which are indisputable signs of war crimes committed by Russian Federation against Ukrainian people and its cultural heritage.
