August 17: On the resonance breakout of the Crimean political detainee Yuri Ilchenko

August 17, noon:  a press conference dedicated to the resonance breakout to mainland Ukraine of Yuri Ilchenko – Crimean political prisoner, who’s been kept under “house arrest” in Sevastopol after prolonged illegal detention. (Hall 1)

Participants: Yuri Ilchenko, Crimean political detainee; Refat Chubarov, chairman of the Mejlis; Emine Dzhaparova, First Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine; Alim Aliyev, co-founder of the NGO “Krym SOS”.

Note. On July 2, 2015 Yuri was detained by FSB and CPE and put in pre-trial detention center Simferopol for 11 months. He was accused of making posts in his blog and social networks where he rejects the annexation and occupation of the Crimea and calls the warfare, which Russia conducts in the East of Ukraine, “war”. Yuri was charged with articles 280 and 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – public incitement to extremist activity and incitement to ethnic hatred or enmity. In June 2016 he was released and placed under house arrest.
