On 22 June 2018, at 3:00pm, the book ‘The First Kurultai: From a Crimean Tatar Constituent Assembly to the National Parliament (1917-1918)’ will be presented at the Ukrinform news agency’s press centre. The book was written by Andrii Ivanets, coordinator at the Tavrian Humanitarian Platform and a fellow at the Scientific and Research Institute for Ukrainian Studies.
The book was published by Klio Publishing House by the order of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine.

Additional information. The First Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people was elected in November 1917. During 9-26 December 1917 it functioned as a national constituent assembly, which adopted basic Crimean Tatar laws. From 26 December 1917 to the autumn 1918, Kurultai functioned as a national parliament and, in particular, formed the Crimean Tatar national government. In May 1918, Kurultai delegates attempted to make it into a national Crimean parliament. Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people resumed its operation in 1991 in the course of the indigenous people’s return to Crimea. Until 2014, five sessions had taken place. Kurultai has been recognized as the highest representative body of Crimean Tatars. After the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol was temporarily occupied, Russia banned its activity.
