Briefly. In March 2017 marks 100 years since the beginning of the Ukrainian revolution of 1917-1921 years – one of the most important and difficult periods in the history of Ukrainian people in the twentieth century. Today Ukraine is the successor of a state traditions, laid down by the revolution of 1917-1921 years. Ukrainian people for the first time in the twentieth century had created the sovereign nation-state with all its characteristics: territory, borders, symbols, government, army, money, language. For the first time after centuries of statelessness, the Union took place in the same Cathedral country in Eastern and Western Ukrainian lands. The experience of independent Ukraine played a decisive role in the future liberation struggle of Ukrainians. The achievements of the revolution and the causes of its destruction should be an important lesson for modern Ukraine.
Background information. The beginning of the revolution is associated with the creation of the Ukrainian Central Rada, headed by Myhailo Hrushevsky 17 March 1917, which for a short time turned from the representative body of the Ukrainian public movement into a full-fledged Parliament Ukrainian People’s Republic. By the development of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, Ukrainian State, and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic, Ukrainians proved their nation-state potential.
