The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy continues to document damages to cultural infrastructure objects in Ukraine as a result of the full-scale russian aggression. As of May 25, 2024, 2,003 cultural institutions (including institutions under the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and other state-owned cultural institutions) have suffered damages, excluding cultural heritage sites. Among these, 325 have been destroyed (16.3%).
State-owned cultural institutions accounted for 32 damaged objects (13% of the total number of institutions at the national level), while municipally-owned institutions accounted for 1,971 objects (6% of the total number of institutions at the local level).
The largest group of cultural institutions that have suffered damages or destruction are creative hubs (48.2% of the total number of damaged cultural infrastructure institutions).
Overall, the affected institutions include:

– Museums and galleries – 116
– Theaters, cinemas, and philharmonics – 37
– Parks, zoos, and reserves – 15
– Circuses – 3
Cultural institutions in the territory of 286 territorial communities (19.5% of the total number of amalgamated territorial communities) have suffered damage in the following regions: Vinnytsia (3.2%), Dnipropetrovsk (20.9%), Donetsk (87%), Zhytomyr (17%), Zakarpattia (2%), Zaporizhzhia (36%), Kyiv (27.1%), Luhansk (46.2%), Lviv (4.1%), Mykolaiv (44.2%), Odesa (9.9%), Poltava (2%), Sumy (56.9%), Kharkiv (55.4%), Kherson (43%), Khmelnytskyi (17%), Cherkasy (6.1%), Chernihiv (47.4%), Kirovohrad (2%) regions, and the city of Kyiv.
As of the end of May 2024, almost the entire territory of the Luhansk region and significant parts of the Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson regions remain under temporary occupation, making it impossible to calculate the exact number of cultural institutions affected by combat operations and occupation.
