Due to russian aggression in Ukraine, 1702 objects of cultural infrastructure have suffered

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine continues to document the damage to cultural infrastructure objects in Ukraine because of the full-scale russian aggression. As of September 29, 2023, 1702 objects of cultural infrastructure have suffered losses.

The cultural infrastructure suffered the most significant losses and damage in the Donetsk, Kherson, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

The largest group of cultural infrastructure objects that have suffered damage or destruction are creative hubs  – 49% of the total number of cultural infrastructure institutions that have experienced losses.

In total, the following cultural infrastructure objects have been affected:

– creative hubs – 841

– libraries – 601

– institutions of art education  – 131

– museums and galleries – 99

– theaters and philharmonics –  30

Cultural infrastructure objects have experienced damage and destruction in a total of 262 territorial communities (17.8% of the total number of territorial communities in Ukraine), including: Donetsk (82%), Sumy (53%), Kharkiv (52%), Chernihiv (46%), Kherson (43%), Luhansk (42%), Mykolaiv (42%), Zaporizhia (36%), Kyiv (26%), Dnipropetrovsk (19%), Zhytomyr (12%), Odesa (8%), Khmelnytskyi (8%), Cherkasy (5%), Lviv (4%), Vinnytsia (3%),  Zakarpattia (2%), Poltava (2%) regions and  the city of Kyiv.

It should be noted that as of the end of September 2023, almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of the territories of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions are still under temporary occupation. This makes it impossible to calculate the exact number of cultural infrastructure objects that have suffered during the hostilities and occupation in these areas.
