During the full-scale invasion, russia has completely destroyed 50 institutions of arts education,” Rostyslav Karandieiev announced at the UNESCO conference

On February 13, the World Conference on Culture and Arts Education, organized by UNESCO, began at the National Exhibition Center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The event, held in an online format, was attended by the Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy, Rostyslav Karandieiev.

“I believe that our humanitarian cooperation, aimed solely at peaceful purposes and spiritual growth, will allow Ukrainian children and teachers, and later on – prominent artists, to join the global cultural process on equal terms and enrich it with works that will constitute the heritage of all mankind,” he said.

The Acting Minister noted that Ukraine currently has 1250 municipal art schools, 6 state art lyceums, 45 municipal and 14 state art colleges, academies, and universities. These institutions educate professionals in the fields of art and cultural management.

Rostyslav Karandieiev also emphasized that due to the war, Ukraine cannot fully carry out its educational activities. For instance, in just the past two years, russia has completely destroyed 48 arts schools and 2 colleges. Additionally, 72 arts schools and 1 state lyceum have been damaged. Currently, 113 schools and 6 colleges are temporarily occupied. In many cases, the educational process is sustained through online education.

“I hope that after the end of the war, after our victory, we will be able to fully participate in the immense cultural and educational heritage of Europe – in schools and universities, which today serve as a great example for us in organizing the educational and arts process,” said Rostyslav Karandieiev.
