Oleksandr Tkachenko addressed to UNESCO to introduce the Ukrainian language for the coverage of the war in Ukraine

State language policy

The Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko addressed to UNESCO and the World Heritage Center to publish materials on the “War in Ukraine” website not only in the official languages of UNESCO, but also in Ukrainian.

The “War in Ukraine” resources and the official UNESCO website are among the main and most influential for obtaining reliable information. Currently, materials are published on platforms in official languages of UNESCO: English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, russian, French.

Publication of news in the Ukrainian language is a unique opportunity for Ukrainians inside the country and Ukrainians, who are currently abroad, to get acquainted with current and verified information about the war, as well as about the activities of UNESCO in support of our state in their native language.

Information about events taking place in Ukraine can be found on many information platforms. The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, in cooperation with other state bodies and international organizations, also uses its information resources for operational and round-the-clock distribution of official information about the current state of the war.

“There is no nation without its language, its original culture. At the same time, the suppression of the Ukrainian language is a tool that russia has been using since imperial times to destroy the Ukrainian mentality and identity,” Oleksandr Tkachenko noted in his address.

In the current realities of the war, it is not only about the sovereign integrity of the Ukrainian state, but also about the preservation of Ukrainian identity, culture and history. The information front remains an important tool of influence and defense against the Kremlin’s disinformation in this hybrid war.
