Oleksandr Tkachenko in Davos called on European colleagues to support sanctions against russian cultural figures and propagandists

Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, joined the conference of European Ministers of Culture, which started today in Davos, online.

In his speech, the Minister called on the entire civilized world to support sanctions against russian cultural figures, propagandists, and journalists who can still travel to Europe, which is “intolerable” for russia

“At a time when Ukrainians are protecting their cultural heritage at the cost of their lives, russian culture is being used as a missile. It precedes tanks and shells. This clears the way for russian propaganda and disinformation in the world. Cultural figures of russia openly or by their silence support the genocidal war against Ukraine,” said the Minister.

He also said that 5 years ago, the Ukrainian delegation was among those who signed and adopted the Davos Declaration on the high-quality of Baukultur, recognizing the political priority of cultural aspects in preservation, planning and building, as well as the importance of protecting cultural heritage

“Today we are happy to join the launch of the Davos Baukultur Alliance. Speaking about Ukraine, we do realize, unfortunately, that the consequences of the war will be terrible. There are many cities that are almost destroyed. Therefore, our mission after victory will be to restore not only the buildings, but also the normal life of people in these cities. We do believe that the concept of high-quality Baukultur will be among the leading principles that the Ukrainian state will rely on while rebuilding the country,” emphasized Oleksandr Tkachenko.

In addition, Oleksandr Tkachenko thanked for all the support that the world provides to Ukraine.

“Also, we will highly appreciate expert and financial assistance in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and, what is even more important – a coordinated position in the stable and consistent implementation of sanctions against the aggressor state, as well as the search for ways to collect reparations and compensations for the damage caused and direct them to the reconstruction of Ukraine , in particular, the cultural sphere,” noted the Minister.

It should be recalled that from January 14 to 16, the Second Conference of European Ministers of Culture “Common Good – Shared Responsibility” will take place in Davos. Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy Anastasia Bondar is participating in the conference from Ukraine, Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko joined the event online.
