The Netherlands and Ukraine have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of digitalization of cultural heritage

The Netherlands will share their experience in the field of digitalization of cultural heritage with Ukraine, and support the development and implementation of technical solutions to promote Ukrainian art in the digital realm.

This issues were discussed during bilateral consultations with the participation of Deputy Ministers of Culture and Information Policy Anastasia Bondar, Kateryna Chuyeva and Galyna Grygorenko, as well as the delegation from the Netherlands, led by the Director of the Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency, Susan Lammers.

“The Netherlands will share their concept of cultural heritage digitalization strategy with us. I informed my colleagues about the fundamental vision of sustainable growth in the digital realm. I firmly believe that we should not limit ourselves to digitalizing cultural objects merely to “imprison” them in digital repositories. Evacuated does not mean inaccessible. Accessibility of collections should be a top priority. In this context, we discussed with colleagues the organization of educational workshops for the creation and presentation of digitalized collections,” said Anastasia Bondar.

Another interesting area of cooperation discussed during the meeting was streaming art performances, in which the Netherlands has significant experience.

“The institutions of the performative sector in the Netherlands have created and successfully utilized technical infrastructure for live online broadcasting of theater performances. We discussed the possibilities of using a similar platform for Ukraine to increase access to Ukrainian art for Ukrainians, including temporarily displaced individuals abroad. Furthermore, our partners are willing to provide expertise in monetizing such activities for cultural institutions. We agreed to discuss this issue in more detail during future meetings,” said Galyna Grygorenko.

To enhance the effectiveness of their interaction, the parties agreed to establish sectoral working groups and proceed with a more focused approach in each specific area of cooperation
