In September 1934, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Ukrainian writer Mykhailo Mykhailovych Kotsiubynskyi, a museum dedicated to his memory was founded in Chernihiv.
Description of the institution
The interior of the house has been preserved as it was during the life of Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi. In the living room, which was the writer’s office, there is his desk with writing utensils and a typewriter. The personal library of the writer is also stored here: the first printed works, autographed books donated by Ivan Franko and other famous writers. In the kitchen there are authentic dishes of the 19th century. In the dining room there are Hutsul and Moldavian folk products, Krolevets towels collected by Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi.
Interesting Facts
The Kotsiubynskyi Manor is the only museum in the city of Chernihiv, which, in addition to the exhibition halls, also has a “green exposition” – a memorial garden, started at one time by the writer’s family.
In the museum, in addition to excursions, there are also evenings dedicated to Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi, literary readings, book presentations, thematic exhibitions and other literary and artistic events.
Destruction
As a result of mortar shelling in March 2022, the porch, walls, ceilings, windows, doors and particular interiors of the museum were damaged. In the middle of the institution, some furniture and exhibits were damaged, including a memorial bookcase and a grand piano.
