MIP Addresses Facebook with Regard to Ukrainian Activists' Blocking and Russian Propaganda Dissemination

The Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine has addressed Facebook’s management with regard to the said social media company’s violations of freedom of speech of its Ukrainian users and the de facto policy of promoting the dissemination of fake news and propaganda by the aggressor State, the Russian Federation, and the terrorist groups under its control, the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).

MIP draws attention to the fact that Facebook’s official policy standards state that the community shall not allow the presence on Facebook of entities and individuals that carry out terrorist activities; organized hatred; mass or serial killings. In addition, Ukrainian bodies of state power recognize ‘DPR’ and ‘LPR’ as terrorist organizations.

The Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine requests Facebook’s management to disable the use of Facebook as a means of limiting freedom of speech of Ukrainian activists who combat hybrid warfare unleashed by Russia and in turn to take operative and effective measures to cease the operation of the aforementioned Facebook pages and groups, whose activity contravenes the Community Rules, since their activity is destructive to the Ukrainian people and Facebook’s image as well.
