On 16-20 October, “Ukrainian Cinema Days”, a festival organised by Molodist KIFF and supported by the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine, was held in the town of Storozhynets, Chernivtsi Region.
Six contemporary Ukrainian films were screened at the local community centre, including “Cyborgs” (directed by Akhtem Seitablaiev, 2017), “The Stolen Princess: Ruslan and Ludmila” (directed by Oleh Malamuzh, 2018), “Djakuyu” (directed by Dzen Yevstyhneikin, 2018), “What’s Your Name?” (directed by Iryna Hromozda and Svitlana Zaloha, 2018), “The Stronghold” (“Storozhova zastava”, directed by Yuriy Kovaliov, 2017), and “Their Prayer” (directed by Akhtem Seitablaiev, 2017).
The necessary equipment, including a professional screen, a projection device, and a sound system, was delivered from Kyiv. All the sessions were free.
“The lack of cinema houses in small towns is understandably a problem, and it should be approached systemically. In the meantime, we do our best on our part so that people in places with no technical capabilities can watch quality Ukrainian cinema,” the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Yuriy Stets, was quoted as saying.
Soon, “Ukrainian Cinema Days” will take place in Chornomorsk, Odesa Region (27-31 October), and Voznesensk, Mykolaiv Region (1-5 November).
