May 25, the Prime Minister of Ukraine signed a resolution “Ensuring sustainable functioning of state ownership objects bearing strategic importance to economy and national security in communications and telecommunications during exceptional period”, which was initiated by the Ministry of Information Policy and supported by the Government.
“Powering off television towers is the same assistance to terrorist organizations, as supplying Russian-backed separatists with firearms. Anyone official trying to block the Ukrainian information supply must bear responsibility for encroaching upon the sovereignty of Ukraine. This is a high treason!”, Yurii Stets stressed.
Within the framework of activities of the Commission on ensuring stable operation of national television and radio broadcasting, the Ministry of Information Policy conducted monitoring that revealed numerous facts of illegal powering off regional branches of the BRT Concern. Shutting off the power supplied to television towers interrupted broadcasting of TV, radio programs and digital streams. Cases like this took place throughout Ukraine, thus necessitating adoption of decision on the level of central administration.
The key objective of the resolution is the creation of conditions to ensure uninterrupted power supply of state ownership objects bearing strategic importance in communications and telecommunications.
“The lack of access to information in our country suffering from military aggression threatens the security of its citizens, incites aggressor to spread false information in the absence of free access information produced by the government and Ukrainian mass media, may lead to artificial instigation of society through information and psychological special ops we observe every day in the Russian information space”, the Minister noted.
Development of the draft resolution “Ensuring sustainable functioning of state ownership objects bearing strategic importance to economy and national security in communications and telecommunications during exceptional period” is another step of the MIP towards ensuring information security of Ukraine.
