Statement by MIP Regarding Verdict by Russinan ‘Court’ Issued with Respect to Ukrainian Journalist Roman Sushchenko

The Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine strongly condemns the Kremlin’s verdict with regard to Roman Sushchenko, a correspondent at the news agency Ukrinform.

“Russian criminal authorities and its pocket ‘courts’ again demonstrate the utmost cynicism and disrespect for human values. It is evident that they could not care less about the position of the entire civilized world. They live in their own closed world, where stifling dissent and double standards are commonplace.

But this is a way to nowhere, this regime is done for. And I sincerely hope, before long Roman Sushchenko and dozens of other political prisoners of the Kremlin will be testifying against Putin and his lapdogs at an international tribunal,” the Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine, Yuriy Stets, was quoted as saying.

Earlier, on June 4th, the Moscow City Court sentenced Mr Sushchenko to 12 years in high-security prison under fabricated espionage charges. The defence is planning to impeach the judgement.
